411 for New Parents

We would like to welcome you to Troop 123. We are fortunate to have your son join our troop. Troop 123 is very active when it comes to helping your son succeed in Boy Scouts. There is nothing more rewarding then being able to help your son learn the skills and requirements needed as a boy scout.

We understand this is a new experience for you and your son. The best advice we can give is to make sure that you reach out to parents who have been in Troop 123 in the past. Ask parents questions and form a support group with one another. If you have a question, please feel free to ask one of the adult leaders. If they can’t answer the question, they may be able to offer a suggestion of who to contact.

We encourage you to become active in this group. Our troop is successful because of parents and volunteers who help us on various committees, campouts and other activities. Whether you want to participate on a small or large scale, we will always welcome your help and fresh ideas. We are here to help you get acclimated into the Troop.

You need to make sure your scout has what he needs, when he needs it, and even if he needs it. This web page is just for you. Here are some quick tips, and important information to help you manage the first few months of Scouting.

Come to the Troop Meetings

At the beginning of every Troop meeting, we have an announcement session. This is a great time to learn what is going on, and when things are happening. If you are not sure of something, please ask. One of the leaders will know the answer, or will get the answer for you.

Parent Meetings

There will be a parents meeting the first Monday of each month (September through June). These meetings will be held during the scout meeting and will begin immediately following the opening ceremony. All parents and / or scout representatives (i.e. Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, etc) are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings. Goals for these meetings are to update and inform the families of upcoming events and to solicit involvement and support for these events.

BSATroop123.com (this web site)

The Troop 123 website has been redesigned to help you, and your scouts. One of the most important pages is the Calendar. Across the top, you will find categories of meetings, and the next 3 meetings for that type. If you want to know when and where the next two camping trips are going to take place, it is listed. In addition the calendar is color coded in both the monthly calendar, and the categories.

Upcoming Camping Trips

Planing your year, and even just know when camping trips are coming is a concern for all of us. As the events are known, dates and outing specifics are listed on Camping Trips Upcoming page. If only tentative dates are known, it is listed as tentative.

Summer Camp and High Adventure information

Most of the boy want to go to Summer Camp and the High Adventure trip. But these are 1-2 week long events, have relative costs, and take family planning. We now have separate web pages focusing on this year's Summer Camp and the High Adventure trips. Location, important dates, forms, merit badge selection, and related costs will be posted as known. This will allow your family to plan its summer appropriately, and get you and your scout the information needed for these great events.
